With a new year, comes new resolutions. Typically, we think about resolutions such as getting healthier by exercising more or eating healthier, which are all great things! Also important are ways to keep ourselves and family safe while out-and-about, at home and at work. Below are some great reminders on how to have a safe 2026.Β

  1. Always wear a seatbelt β€” Even for short trips.
  2. Limit phone use while driving β€” Consider using Do Not Disturb mode while driving.
  3. Walk or jog in well-lit, safe areas β€” Especially if you're alone or at night.
  4. Update emergency contacts β€” Keep your phone and personal records current.
  5. Take a self-defense, first aid/CPR or Stop the Bleed class β€” Empower yourself with skills that can save lives.
  6. Be mindful of alcohol use β€” Especially in social settings or when driving is involved.

🏠 Home Safety Resolutions

  1. Install or test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors monthly. Change/check batteries regularly.
  2. Create (or review) a home emergency plan β€” Fire escape, severe weather.
  3. Declutter and secure walkways β€” Prevent falls and injuries.
  4. Lock doors and windows regularly β€” Day and night.
  5. Safely store medications and cleaning products β€” Especially if children or pets are in the home.

🏒 Workplace Safety Resolutions

  1. Report unsafe conditions immediately β€” Don’t ignore warning signs.
  2. Wear required safety gear (PPE) consistently.
  3. Take breaks to avoid fatigue-related accidents β€” Especially in physical or high-risk jobs.
